Our journey begins out of necessity. To answer the question, "Is this hobby sustainable?" At both the micro and macro levels.
On a personal level, sustainability means long term success in keeping a healthy and thriving aquarium, as well as a financial strategy for covering the costs.
From an industry perspective, we recognize the need for change. To shift from a commodity model to one of value. To align our practices with the changing world and to be stewards of the life that we cherish.
The hobby seller
The core of our business model is the hobby seller.
To support hobbyists on their journey as they progress from beginner to expert:
Knowledge is requirement for success in this hobby. As is experience. Both take time to acquire.
As we enter the hobby we learn about cycling our aquariums. We learn about mechanical and biological filtration. We learn about water changes and maintaining our aquariums. This is the starting point and for some it serves as the destination. For others, a world of discovery awaits.
From water chemistry through fish disease and the microbiome, there is required knowledge and there is knowledge that changes the how you view the hobby. Are you a gear head, a collector, a biologist, a chemist, an engineer, a diver, an artist, a researcher, or perhaps there are many aspects of the aquarium hobby that excite you. There can be no denying that the hobby has something to offer just about everyone that takes an interest in it.
